Just how much money is owed to the descendants of African enslaved persons ?

It is estimated that about 12 million slaves entered the Atlantic trade between the 16th and 19th century, but about 1.5 million died on board ship. To be more precise, about 10.5 million slaves arrived in the Americas roughly 400 years ago — around 35 generations ago.

35 generations X 10.5 million slaves = 367.5 million individuals of African origin (dead and alive) who lived and still live in the Americas roughly 400 years ago up until now.

Now consider this: The majority of black enslaved persons worked for free the better part of their lives, around 40 years. In this day in age if an individual worked full time hours 5 days a week earning minimum wage over a 40 year period, take home pay would be around $2,000,000 USD. Do the math. Go ahead and deduct income taxes, calculate income on 20 years of slave labor instead of 40, or cut the hourly rate of minimum wage in half and take home pay would still be seven figures, roughly $1,000,000 USD.

Now multiply one million dollars by 367.5 million individuals of African origins (dead and alive) who lived and still live in the Americas roughly 400 years ago up until now to get an idea of how much money black people residing in the Americas are owed today for unpaid slave labor of their ancestors. The number would look something like this: $367,000,000,000,000 USD. <—— The dollar figure triples if you factor in compensation for aggravated and punitive damages due to loss of property and life during slavery which the Reparation Hub did not take into account.
